A World With No Color was the short film that founded Melcre on May 27, 2022, however that wasn't where the Melcre story began. Alexandre Aguilar and Derek Robbins both knew they wanted to make something for the internet to see, but they didn't know what story to tell. A World With No Color (at the time using the working title Colorless) was written by Aguilar based on a nightmare he had where he went colorblind and roamed the Earth not being able to see the colors of our society. Aguilar pitched the idea to Robbins and decided to go along with the project by casting themselves as the two protagonists. The story of A World With No Color was more complicated in the realm of reality as Melcre's upbringing was a whole set of challenges in their own.
Prior to the pre-production of A World With No Color, Aguilar and Robbins were both part of a web-series they co-produced called Studio Chaos alongside future co-star Ryan Gillam and two friends of theirs, Chase Walker and Ronald Arnole. Studio Chaos was formatted as a podcast-like series where Chase Walker and Ryan Gillam with occasional appearances by Aguilar and Robbins would talk about random topics, some of which was on the news when they were taping. Aguilar and Robbins became familiar with camera equipment and editing software (they were both taking film class) as their film teacher encouraged them to take a leap and create their own material, not just projects for their class. Studio Chaos, however, became very distasteful in nature very quickly which led to Robbins leaving the production, and Aguilar stepped in to be the showrunner and show editor to attempt to make it more appealing on YouTube. It got better, however around this time Aguilar began to write the story that would become A World With No Color, and taped the first scenes of the short on a Wednesday as Studio Chaos was taped on Thursday.
A World With No Color would film concurrently with Studio Chaos as Aguilar and Robbins would take advantage of using their school broadcast studio to film some shots of the short film. Aguilar was able to edit both Studio Chaos and A World With No Color, however Studio Chaos ended production as Chase Walker was involved in sexual assault allegations and barred from all future productions Aguilar and Robbins would produce. (DISCLAIMER: Melcre Pictures and their associates is not aware if this has proceeded to anything more than a allegation or led to a conviction. Proper authorities were notified when we first learned of the incident.) Filming for A World With No Color continued as scheduled, and by this point in time the film has moved on to Post-Production where Aguilar used visual effects to combine black & white and color objects.
Before the release of A World With No Color, Studio Chaos was officially canceled and Chase gave his part of the Studio Chaos rights to Melcre Pictures (previously Aguilar), who had the other part. Now owning all the rights to Studio Chaos, Aguilar took down the original Studio Chaos channel and videos. Aguilar and Robbins attempted to reboot Studio Chaos as a more family-friendly version in the fall of 2022, however was canceled by Melcre again only months later when viewership dropped, leading to the new channel having all videos private. To this day, Aguilar and Robbins has not commented on if they will ever make the Melcre Version of Studio Chaos public again.
Aguilar finished the film in early May 2022, however he needed a soundtrack for the project. The short used placeholder music from the 1997 movie Contact and the 1994 movie Forrest Gump, both composed by Alan Silvestri. Aguilar did not want to use copyrighted music in his short, so he initially asked Robbins to score the film, which he declined and referred him to their friend Davet Cabrera. Cabrera initially worked on the main theme for Studio Chaos when Aguilar became the showrunner, so he was confident that Cabrera was good for the job. Cabrera came back only days before the planned release on the 27th with the score, to which Aguilar puts it in the film and it releases on time.
