Damn, we made it? Head artist Alexandre Aguilar, whom all the artwork on the Melcre pages are made by, always had all Melcre social media accounts closed for commissions for reasons we couldn't find out (maybe because he would be the only one doing it), however the few times commissions come by, he never disappoints. Saint Little Grape, a small punk-band who includes Liam Ashworth from DesireGenie, knew who to ask to make the cover for their debut album Patron Saint of Sin. The album cover features some notable characters, such as the title character Saint Grape dawning a purple suit and a guitar on his back, Saint Mango playing on a Les Paul Guitar (it even says it on the headstock), and last but not least Saint Coconut with drumsticks in his right hand with a bass guitar on his back.
This wasn't Melcre's first piece for Saint Little Grape. Back in June 2023, Ashworth on behalf of the band asked Aguilar to create the Saint Grape character for a test cover, mainly as means to see his potential and what can he make. Aguilar submitted a live-action version of Saint Grape to Ashworth, who wasn't too sure about that version as it looked...off. Aguilar photoshopped a vine of grapes to his head on picture of him in a suit, which was the right idea, but something wasn't there yet, even Aguilar agreed. Of he went to try again, this time turning to 2D to help him out. Aguilar originally refrained from 2D as he wanted a photorealistic approach to it, yet did not hold back when he worked to construct Saint Grape by hand in his signature style seen in most of his 2D works. When he returned to Ashworth with the new Saint Grape, Ashworth appraised the piece and made it the cornerstone of Saint Little Grape, including its profile picture.
Saint Little Grape posted a demo of Patron Saint of Sin available to listen right now on their Instagram account, @saint_little_grape. An official release of their album is coming soon. Hint: You can hear a small sample of their music as Kenny's ringtone in DesireGenie.
